My favourite albums of every year I’ve been alive - 1992
And so the series continues with the third year of my life. It’s the end of 1992, I’m still a small child having just had my second birthday. I’m not aware of any of these albums yet but at some point they’ll be big players in my musical journey.
Another good year on reflection. A lot of people love the 90s for nostalgia but there were genuinely good years for music. Whilst there are a lot of albums I like from this year, this post is shorter as I try to stick to harsher criteria and only select albums that really mean something to me, or at least, have at some point.
P.S My man Jake has done a write up of his similar project here and my friend Thomas has been doing this project here
The first album I’ve chosen to feature from 1992 is one that I bought when I first getting into metal and was purchased purely based on the cover art. It’s Countdown to Extinction by Megadeth. I knew the name but not the music and seeing that cover made me want to hear it. It’s not one of my favourite artworks but it made me want to know what THAT sounds like. I still love this album today, although I don’t visit it much.

The next album on my list has featured on the pages of this blog before. I know a lot of people think they’re a silly novelty band but I genuinely love the Barenaked Ladies. I ranked all there albums here As you can see, my favourite album of theirs is Gordon. This is the perfect blend between their silly songs (If I had a $1,000,000) and their genuinely great songs (Brian Wilson). The whole thing sounds very 90s and I love it so much.

The final album I’m featuring on this edition is Wish by The Cure. Not my favourite Cure album, obviously Disintegration exists, but still one of the top tier ones. The Cure are one of my Dad’s favourite bands and I inherited my fandom from him. I went and camped at a full weekend festival one year just to see them.

Those are my choices for 1992. We are only 3 years in. We got a ways to go.
