My favourite releases from this week (31/10/2025)
Hey there.
This is a post to once again chronicle my favourite new releases from the week that was.
Two of these I have posted about purchasing on social media so apologise if I’m repeating myself because you follow me, you are awesome for doing that and deserve better.
This week I have picked 1 EP and 3 albums that I think are worth checking out.
First off is the debut EP by Arizona Death/Grind band Sligm. This is a really solid debut that walks the line between EP and album, containing 7 tracks however it was listed as an EP so we will go with that. Being from Phoenix it is fitting that they’re rising from the ashes of former band Thorn. This is just slimy goodness and is also very cheap if you want to pick it up.
Next up is another debut release, this time emerging from the depths of the UK. This is ‘Gruesome and Macabre’ by Grave Ghoul. This one leans more towards that Old School Death Metal goodness that’s a particular favourite flavour of mine. Inspired by classic horror and gore, it’s perfect for this time of year. Another instant purchase from me.
The next album I want to shout out wasn’t listed on my release roundup post as it actually came out the day before on the 30th. I would like to shoutout my man Jake on Mastodon for recommending this to me. It is ‘Pestilential Hymns’ by Thaumaturgy. Hailing from Kansas, this one is less straight ahead, more bizarre, with vocals that may seem difficult at first but this definitely rewards perseverance and when it clicks it is top notch.
Finally this week we’re going to mix it up and leave the death metal in the rear view mirror and head to black metal town. We are finishing off with ‘Dawn of the Iron Shadow’ by One of Nine. As the name indicates this is another Lord of the Rings themed black metal band but cliche aside it’s just a good listen. There are keyboard and synth parts interwoven with anthemic riffs making this a delightful way to end the week.
That’s it from me. What did you enjoy this week?
Hails!
